World Lung Day 2022: Ginger and honey tea is one of the best lung detox drinks
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of lung health. And this year’s theme for World Lung Day focuses on “Lung Health for All”. Every year on September 25, the day is celebrated to raise awareness of the importance of lung health. This year, the Forum of International Respiratory Societies decided to examine the following areas to fill the gap. “1.The global burden of major respiratory diseases and the impact of COVID, with a focus on low- and middle-income countries. 2. The importance of early detection and screening. 3. Reduce inequities in screening, diagnosis and treatment of chronic lung conditions.
The main goal of World Lung Day is to raise global awareness about lung health. This year’s theme is Lung Health for All. To raise awareness, Dr. Ravi Shekhar Jha, Director and Unit Head of Pulmonology, Fortis Escorts Hospital, Faridabad shared the information.
Dr Ravi Shekhar Jha said, “With increasing air pollution and environmental degradation, it is even more important to take care of lung health. Today, with the rate of progression of air pollution, many people have started reporting problems related to respiratory health at a very young age. Smog, polluted smoke, and the suspension of industrial chemicals in the air make the quality of the air we breathe deplorable and therefore clog the small ventricles present in our lungs. Due to this blockage, the passage of healthy and fresh air is obstructed in the lungs and as a result, the burden of patients reporting COPD increases.
According to some researchers, PM2.5 is also believed to trigger inflammation in the lungs and cause tumor formation by lung cells with pre-existing mutations, which means air pollution is one of the main causes of the increase in lung cancer cases. Research also suggests that long-term exposure to air pollution can contribute to the development of various lung conditions and that outdoor air pollution contributes to lung cancer. It has also been found that long-term exposure to air pollution is linked to the development of asthma in many patients. Therefore, as responsible citizens, it is important for us to reduce the sources of air pollution and make the environment we live in a healthy and positive atmosphere,” said Dr. Ravi Shekhar Jha.
