Soothing Foods When You’re Sick

When you’re sick, resting, staying hydrated, and eating well are some of the most essential things you can do to feel better and recover faster.

Fortunately, many foods offer health benefits in addition to providing nutrition to your body.

Although no meal alone can cure an illness, eating the right foods can boost your immune system and relieve some symptoms.

Fresh coconut water is a great drink to sip when you’re sick.

It is rich in electrolytes and can replenish the body when you vomit, sweat, have diarrhea or have a fever.

It also contains some natural sugar from the fruit itself, which can serve as a quick and easy source of energy for your body.

Tea is a favorite remedy for many symptoms associated with colds and flu.

Hot tea acts as a natural decongestant, but shouldn’t be too hot to irritate your throat further.

Tea does not appear to contribute to dehydration or cause increased water loss.

Tea also contains polyphenols, natural substances that may have a number of possible health benefits.

This soup is loaded with immune-boosting ingredients that increase nutritional value while adding lots of flavor.

Heat the oil in a saucepan, sauté the onion and celery until soft. Add garlic, ginger and turmeric. Add broccoli, chili flakes, salt, pepper and broth. Boil and cook over low heat until the broccoli is cooked.

Cool the soup, then mix with the avocado and lemon juice. Mix it and serve.

Pressure cook the chicken breasts with water, grated ginger, garlic cloves, peppercorns and cinnamon one inch for three whistles.

Heat a frying pan and add the butter, two minced garlic cloves, a minced onion and the vegetables. When the chicken broth is cooked, let the chicken cool; cut it up and add it to the pan.

Add seasoning and broth. Cover with a lid and reduce the soup by half.

It is advisable to avoid the following foods when you are not feeling well:

Dairy can make a stuffy nose worse by increasing mucus production.

Alcohol is a toxin; and since your body is already fighting infections, it’s best not to add any.

Refined sugar and junk food: A little sugar won’t hurt, but fatty or spicy foods won’t help you recover.
