Manchester Drinks Co wins deal with Aldi to sell Hot Cross Bun spiced gin liqueur in Australian stores

A Greater Manchester drinks company is set to have a successful Easter weekend after striking a deal with Aldi to sell a hot bun flavored drink in Australia.

Bury-based Manchester Drinks Co won the contract for its Hot Cross Bun gin liqueur by tapping into Australia’s penchant for the classic Easter treat.

The gin was first tested by Aldi in Australia last year – and was so successful that the retailer is now selling it in stores across the country.

Manchester Drinks Co was founded in 2005 by Richard Benjamin and Brian Levine. It makes ready-to-drink products, from small batch gins to cocktails and soft drinks sold across the UK.

Mr Benjamin said: ‘We were surprised when Aldi Australia placed their first order because we thought hot rolls were just a British thing. It turns out that they are also extremely popular below.

“We spent time creating the flavor of our classic gin infused with nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and ginger.”

Paul Handley, Buying Director of Spirits and Beer for Aldi, said: “Hot Cross Bun Gin became an instant favorite with our customers when it was introduced last year. It sold out in record time, so we’re very happy to bring it back this Easter this year. This is a great spin on a holiday classic.
