Best vegan foods I’ve tried from Tesco, Aldi, M&S and Sainsbury’s during Veganuary – one was amazing – Laura Nightingale

Once again, thousands of people participated in Veganuary this year, following and celebrating a plant-based way of life.

The range of vegan food, drink and household products in supermarkets has never been better, with companies like Tesco, Aldi, Sainsbury’s, M&S, Lidl and Asda filling their shelves with alternatives.

From hot chocolate, milk yoghurt, sausages, hash and burgers, a huge selection of sweet and savory products is available.

In fact, a week into February, I continued to consume some of these products for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Below are some of my top picks from Veganuary 2022, including Beyond Meat, which I found to be outstanding.

1. Beyond Meat

Available from: Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Tesco and Ocado

wow! From sausages and burgers to hash and meatballs, I have been blown away by the taste, texture and smell of this brand. The products were like real meat.

The pea protein hash went well in a bolognese and I tried a sausage in a bap which was amazing.

2. Sweet Freedom sauces

Available from: Aldi, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda

Although they didn’t work brilliantly for me in hot chocolate, they tasted amazing drizzled over porridge, baked oats, and cakes.

I could literally swallow the chocolate brownie flavor straight from the bottle.

3. Dopsu Meatless Chunks

Available from: Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda

This plant-based product comes in six varieties: No-Chicken, No-Beef, No-Duck, No-Lamb, No-Pork, and No-Beef Burgers.

I found the cuts of beef, pork, and chicken particularly good for stir-frying. Just add some vegetables and soy sauce.

4. Chocolate Ombar

Available from: Tesco and Waitrose

Talk about dreams. Made from oats, the velvety smooth cocoa bar was delicately sweet and reminded me of luxurious Galaxy chocolate.

It was so forgiving.

5. Hippoie Chips

Available from: Tesco and Waitrose

Light and crunchy with a healthy dose of protein and fiber, these chickpea puffs contain just 90 calories. I came across five flavors: Sweet and Smokin’, Take It Cheesy, Salt and Vinegar Vibes, Sweet Chilli Haze, and In Herbs We Trust. The sweet chilli chips were fabulous.

6. MLK Ology Milk

Available from: Tesco

When I tried the original Mighty Pea Milk in my cup of tea, I wasn’t sure at first because it tasted a little curdled. However, when I purchased the Barista version, I was pleasantly surprised.

I also had it in my cereal and it was a great alternative to soy milk which I usually don’t like so much.
