Benefits of Turmeric Milk: 6 Health Benefits of Golden Milk or Turmeric You

1. Helps Manage Sugar Levels

Turmeric milk contains ingredients that can help manage blood sugar. “Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, helps delay the onset of type 2 diabetes by improving insulin resistance. Type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease in which your cells don’t respond to insulin as efficiently as they should, leading to excessive blood sugar levels in your body. Curcumin suppresses the production of inflammatory cytokines, which has a positive impact on blood sugar. Turmeric not only improves the flavor of milk, but may also help reduce the risk or severity of certain diabetes-related complications such as heart disease, high cholesterol and diabetic neuropathy,” says nutritionist Dr Archana Batra, physiotherapist and certified diabetes educator.

2. Boosts Immunity

One of the best-known health benefits of turmeric milk is its ability to boost immunity. “Curcumin has been shown to increase levels of immunoglobulin and white blood cells, which help fight infections. Turmeric milk is also effective in relieving cold and flu symptoms,” notes nutritionist Sapna Jaysingh Patel, founder of Health Before Wealth.

3. Reduces Inflammation

“Turmeric milk is a powerful anti-inflammatory elixir. Turmeric has scientifically documented roles in almost all inflammatory diseases. It is ideal for managing arthritic joint pain, body aches, muscle aches and swollen joints. Go a step further and add a pinch of freshly cracked pepper as the piperine content it contains enhances the bioavailability of curcumin in turmeric, thus boosting its properties,” remarks Luke Coutinho, health expert and co-founder of You Care lifestyle.

4. Reduces the risk of diseases

According to studies, drinking golden milk is linked to reduced risk of a number of diseases. “Curcumin has strong antioxidant properties, which help reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer. Additionally, curcumin increases levels of the brain hormone that helps fight depression and Alzheimer’s disease,” adds Bhumika Pandya, Head of R&D at Soulfuel.

5. Provides Pain Relief

“Turmeric milk is a muscle recovery drink for athletes with its protein quality and healing effect. Regular intake can increase VO2 max, which is the body’s maximum capacity for oxygen consumption during maximal exertion, which determines aerobic power and cardiorespiratory endurance capacity. It also increases the lactic threshold which delays fatigue. Both parameters are important for endurance sports such as marathons, cycling or football,” says nutritionist Lovneet Batra.

6. Improves Digestion

Turmeric milk is also effective in treating digestive issues. “The anti-inflammatory properties of curcumin can help soothe the stomach and reduce symptoms of gas, bloating and indigestion. Curcumin has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases such as as Crohn’s disease and ulcerations,” concludes Sapna Jaysingh Patel.
